Microsoft announced on their Windows Vista blog that the next Windows OS is going to be named “Windows 7″.

They have decided to take the OS’s development codename because they finally realised that naming their OSs according to the year of lauch(Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me) or using “aspirational” monikers like Windows XP or Windows Vista doesn’t make them cool. On a serious note(we don’t get serious too often!), this is the seventh release of Windows, so therefore Windows 7.

So when will we see the new OS? No final dates yet but we do know that Microsoft is in a hurry to push out its next OS after the melancholic response to Vista. They are going to share a pre-beta “developer only release” with attendees the PDC and WinHEC going to be held in the next few weeks.

We obviously expect fresh new screenshots to be leaked when they share their pre-beta release there!

So…

What do think? Will the new name make any difference to the users? Will the new OS be better than the cranky Windows Vista which failed to impress users worldwide royally?
