The guys at Twitter finally realized how people were too bored with the Twitter page design which its users have been seeing since its launch. Twitter launched a new site design yesterday so lets see what are the major changes in the new layout.

Tabs Relocated

New Twitter Tabs - Relocated

The tabs have been relocated to the sidebar. Twitter plans to have more tabs, and they’d run out of room putting them along the top. You won’t see all the benefits until a future release and they say it’s going to be very soon.

Ajax-ed!
When you click on the Home or @Replies tab when you’re already on that page, the updates are now refreshed via Ajax, instead of loading the whole page. This would increase the page reload speed.

Where are my Star and Reply icons?
They’ll show up only when you need them. Hover over an update to see them show up.

And where’s my Archive page?
Did you use it so frequently that you’ll miss it? The Twitter Whale swallowed it when the Twitter guys were busy redesigning the site. Haha! Actually this page was pretty useless as it showed you the same stuff you see on your own profile page – so they removed it.

New design customizer
One new feature added is a completely revamped design customizer, which you’ll find under Settings/Design.

Rounded Corners
They are getting the web 2.0 fever now. You’ll notice rounded corners in the design if you are using Firefox, Safari or even Google Chrome (Internet Explorer users will miss the rounded corners).

The Verdict

This release does not include any new big features. It’s mostly cosmetic changes. We somewhat like the new layout as we were too bored with the old design. Many user don’t like the new layout but everybody will have to get used to it eventually. Overall, they did a good job!

What’s Your Say?

Archit at least the guys at Twitter finally realized it. Maybe the twitter bird had to stop tweeting and screamed a request for the design change at the Twitter Office.
